WINTER 2019 EVENTS AND APPEARENCES
THE BRONX HEROES RETURN TO THE 7TH ANNUAL BCBF
It's that time of year again where Bronx Heroes cross pollenates with other local comic cons to raise awareness about all the great things Bronx Heroes provides to the greater Bronx community and New York City area. This week we will be at the 7th Annual BCBF @ the Schomburg in Harlem, NY. You can also get new exclusive titles like "The Greatest Hero Black Power"/ "Bronx Heroes 2.0" # 4, Brother Lonestar/ Runaway Slave 2 #1, and a new installment of "A World Without Superheroes" vol.2 #1. Be there or be square.
“The Origin of Jack Kirby’s Black Panther”: Marvel Studios will be releasing their long-awaited and much-anticipated Black Panther film in early 2018, a cinematic version of the Marvel Comics superhero that artist/storyteller Jack Kirby created back in 1965 as The Coal Tiger, a black superhero without a full-face mask—or mask of any sort—that The Black Panther would eventually wear when he debuted in print in ’66. The circumstances surrounding this drastic change, along with details and insight into the character’s fascinating origin and background that Kirby gave him, and how these are—and are not—reflected in the movie, will be discussed and shown.
The White Plains Comic Fest returns @ the Galleria Mall, Saturday May 12, 2018.
Comic Historian, Arlen Schumer, returns to TWPCF to present
Jack Kirby's Black Panther.
ARLEN SCHUMER is an award-winning comic book-style illustrator for the advertising and editorial markets, a member of The Society of Illustrators and a recognized expert on American popular culture—ABC-TV's 2020 called him “one of the countryʼs preeminent authorities on comics and culture," and Comic Book Artist magazine said he was "one of the more articulate and enthusiastic advocates of comic book art in America”; his comic book art history book The Silver Age of Comic Book Art (Archway Publishing) won the Independent Book Publishers Award for Best Popular Culture Book.
